Nearly 2,000 Surrey SEND children out of school
The BBC spoke with Ed Davey about what we’ll do differently on SEND in Surrey when we take over next year. They reported that nearly 2,000 Surrey children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) attended school for less than 65% of the 24/25 academic year. This has increased from over 1,800 the previous year. The consequences of this can be devasting, with parents often giving up work and children missing out on months of vital support and access to education, while their mental health deteriorates.
