Chris urges government action to close asylum hotels

I’m proud that this country helps refugees. I’m intensely proud that I spent years building a charity with a Rwandan refugee from the genocide. But there have been two serious criminal incidents in Horley in the last three months in relation to the Four Points Hotel. Although the police acted promptly, my constituents do have legitimate safety concerns. I asked the Home Secretary today what steps she was taking to close the Four Points Hotel as an asylum hotel as soon as possible.
Asylum seekers deserve to be treated with dignity and I’m proud of our community’s compassion. However, recent criminal incidents linked to residents of the Four Points Hotel have understandably made people feel uneasy. Since Brexit, asylum seekers can no longer be sent back to France. The Conservatives and Farage must apologise for causing this issue. I asked the Home Secretary her plans to close the Four Points last night in Parliament. Lib Dems have long been calling for the closure of asylum hotels and I was on BBC Radio Surrey this morning to discuss this.
