Chris slams Royal Mail profiting whilst cutting local service
Royal Mail recently confirmed plans to cut back, delivering second class letters only every other weekday and axing Saturday deliveries. This comes even though in the RH postcode, over 25% of mail arrives late - well below their 93% target. Constituents often feel “lucky if [they] receive post once every two weeks” - and things are only getting worse. Some have missed NHS appointments; others have been hit by increased parking fines and tax demands from HMRC arriving after deadlines.
Royal Mail have effectively stopped replying to both myself and local residents. When we raised our initial complaints, Royal Mail said they’d work with us - the local sorting office would investigate issues and try to fix them. Unfortunately, communication has broken down and issues remain unresolved.
On top of that, in Buckland and Betchworth, the part-time post lady (30 hours per week) was moved to another round with no replacement. Constituents had no post at all during her annual leave (24 June to 9 July), and even after deliveries restarted the franking was showing delays of two weeks. It is a disgrace that even the last resort for getting important post wasn’t available to these residents.
