Chris demands Surrey County Council keeps its promises

UPDATE: Surrey County Council say Bookham will get its new youth centre on the 164 Lower Rd site by October 2026. However, SCC have given us commitments before and far too often haven’t followed through. Their timeline suggests the rebuild would start at the beginning of 2026, although it has not been made clear if there are any detailed plans.

The Conservative County Council shut down Bookham Youth Centre in 2019, leaving children and teenagers without constructive after school activities. The site has been left to slowly fall into disrepair.

The Conservatives promised a new youth centre for Bookham in 2021, to be build on Lower Road recreation ground with a budget of £2.5 million.

They are now backtracking. Alongside Councillors from Bookham and Fetcham, I have written to Surrey County Council Leader, Tim Oliver, to ask him the exact reasons for the U turn. The Council must deliver what they promised.
