Christopher Laskaris was autistic and murdered aged 24. His mother, Fiona, begged local authorities for help but was ignored as he was presumed to have had mental capacity. In my maiden speech I pledged to help Fiona in changing the law so that the lives of others are saved. At Prime Minister's questions I asked the Prime Minister to support her campaign in Christopher’s law which will create a duty to assess capacity where it is in doubt. He told me that work is underway to prevent other families from going through what Fiona’s did. I’m very grateful for cross party support from Jeremy Hunt, Fiona’s MP, and Jake Richards MP, who was the barrister at Christopher’s inquest.
